BRACKEN, Lawrence W. Jr. "Larry," age 66, was born in Richmond, Va. on February 11, 1947, and went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, L. W. Bracken Sr. He is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years, Sharon Guigley Bracken, whom he lovingly referred to as either "My bride" or "Miss Sharon"; his mother, Kathleen Fitzgerald Bracken of Rome, Ga.; and sister, The Reverend Janice Bracken Wright (Buster) of Rome, Ga. Fondly known as "Doc" to many in his circle of devoted friends, he was a 1965 graduate of Hermitage High School and attended RPI (now VCU). In 2010, he and Sharon completed a four-year program in Education for Ministry from The University of the South. Larry was a dedicated member of Christ Ascension Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as a lay reader. He was a long-time member of Arlington Lodge No. 102 A. F. & A. M., Millers Tavern, Va., and was a former member of the Acca Temple Motor Patrol. Larry was the owner of P.J. Petts, a local, independent pet supply store. His love of animals extended from boarding kennel to breeder of Bassett Hounds and show dog handler, and in later years his love of his five cats. He will be remembered and missed by all who experienced his love, kindness, humility and patience. He was a true Virginia Gentleman. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, February 10, at Christ Ascension Episcopal Church. Interment with Masonic rites will follow in Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Ascension Episcopal Church, 1704 W. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227.
